Pregnacare Conception – Expert care while trying for a baby

Now you have decided to try for a baby, you want to prepare your body and ensure a healthy diet and lifestyle to maximise your chances of conception. This special Pregnacare Before Conception formula has been developed on the basis of worldwide studies showing that certain nutrients can play an important role in helping to build nutritional stores ready for pregnancy and support good reproductive health.

Pregnacare Before Conception provides a carefully balanced comprehensive formulation of micronutrients for the maintenance of reproductive health in women, including the specific nutrients inositol, l-arginine, n-acetyl cysteine and selenium. The formula also includes vitamin B12 and folic acid at 400mcg, the exact recommended level to help safeguard the early stages of foetal development.

Ideal for all women to help build nutritional stores for before conception, the formula includes key nutritional elements:

Folic Acid
Pregnacare Conception provides 400mcg folic acid, the exact level recommended by the UK Department of Health for all women who are trying to conceive. As well as the healthy development of the foetal neural tube, folic acid may also play a role in conception, and is required in the first days and weeks of life, before you are even aware that you are pregnant.

Antioxidant minerals with natural vitamin E
Important co-factors in antioxidant enzymes, to help protect genetic material from free radical damage. Vitamin E is an essential nutrient, important for helping maintain healthy skin, nerves, heart and circulation, muscles and red blood cells. Pregnacare® Conception contains a low recommended dietary intake of 20mg. This is present in the natural form which is better absorbed by the mother and transported to the foetus than synthetic vitamin E.

Inositol
Inositol may help support ovarian function and influence fertility. It is involved in the cell signalling pathway which influences fertilization and cell growth.

L-Arginine
Well known as a precursor in nitric oxide (NO) metabolism, L-arginine can influence release of the egg from the ovaries (follicular release) as well as healthy follicular blood flow and implantation.

N-acetyl cysteine
A precursor of glutathione, an important antioxidant in the body. N-acetyl cysteine is also important for healthy cervical secretions.

Vitamin B12
Part of the B complex group of vitamins, it has been found that B12 supplementation can help to maintain healthy ovarian function and reproductive health.to be negative, it is advised that you consult your GP with a view to having a full semen analysis performed.

Pregnacare Before Conception FAQ

Why has Pregnacare Before Conception been developed?
Pregnacare Conception has been specifically designed to support the nutritional requirements of women who are trying to conceive. The special formula has been developed on the basis of worldwide studies showing that certain nutrients can play an important role in helping to build nutritional stores ready for pregnancy and support good reproductive health. Pregnacare Conception provides a carefully balanced comprehensive formulation of micronutrients for the maintenance of reproductive health in women, including the specific nutrients inositol, l-arginine, n-acetyl cysteine and selenium. The formula also includes vitamin B12, and folic acid at 400mcg, the exact recommended level to help safeguard the early stages of foetal development.

When is Pregnacare Before Conception recommended?
Pregnacare Conception should be used as soon as you start trying for a baby. To help build the body’s nutritional stores it can even be for 3-6 months before you start to try for a baby. Once you have confirmed you are pregnant, you can continue to use up any remaining Pregnacare Conception tablets, before moving on to Pregnacare or Pregnacare Plus with Omega-3, which are specially formulated for the remainder of your pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Pregnacare Conception contains the right amount of folic acid and other nutrients for the early weeks of pregnancy too, as your baby requires these nutrients for foetal development before you are even aware you are pregnant.

What do I need to know before starting to use Pregnacare Before Conception?
Pregnacare Conception has been carefully developed by a team of experts including highly qualified pharmacists and nutritional consultants, and is based upon scientific research evidence, as a nutritional safeguard for women who are trying for a baby. Pregnacare® Conception replaces your usual daily multivitamin.

Can Pregnacare Before Conception be used alongside medicines?
As a general rule, Pregnacare Conception can be taken alongside medications because it contains only moderate levels of vitamins and minerals. However, if you are already taking prescribed supplements or medications or have an underlying condition, seek advice from your doctor or health professional first

How many tablets does one pack of Pregnacare Conception contain?
Pregnacare Conception contains 30 tablets per pack and it is recommended to take one per day.

How and when should Pregnacare Before Conception be used?
One tablet per day is recommended with or immediately after your main meal, with a full glass of water or a cold drink. Taking the tablet with a large meal maximises the absorption of the nutrients, and can reduce nausea which is sometimes experienced if multivitamins are taken on an empty stomach. Pregnacare Conception should only be taken on a full stomach. Always ensure that Pregnacare® Conception is taken with plenty of liquid to wash down the tablet. We do not recommend chewing the tablets because they have not been formulated as chewable preparations. Chewable tablets usually include flavourings, sweeteners and/or added ingredients to help break the tablet up in the mouth. Pregnacare Conception tablets are suitable for vegetarians

Are there any undesired effects whilst taking Pregnacare Conception?
Pregnacare Conception has no known side-effects when taken as directed. Do not exceed the recommended tablet intake. In case of overdose, seek medical advice immediately.

Is there anything my partner can take too?
Yes. Wellman tablets can help safeguard the nutritional requirements of your partner and provide him with nutrients needed to help maintain reproductive health. Wellman is different from a regular multivitamin supplement as each nutrient level has been individually designed for men’s health on the basis of international research evidence. The advanced one-a-day formula includes zinc and antioxidants which are essential for men’s reproductive health.

What are the active ingredients?
Pregnacare Conception contains the following active ingredients per tablet: L-Arginine 100mg; Inositol 50mg; N-Acetyl Cysteine 50mg; Betacarotene 3mg; Vitamin D (600 I.U.) 15 mcg; Vitamin E 30 mg; Vitamin C 90 mg; Vitamin B1 8 mg; Vitamin B2 5 mg; Niacin 20 mg; Vitamin B6 10 mg; Folic Acid 400 mcg; Vitamin B12 20 mcg; Biotin 150mcg; Pantothenic Acid 6mg; Iron 14 mg; Selenium 50 mcg; Magnesium 60 mg; Zinc 15 mg; Iodine 140 mcg; Copper 1 mg. Pregnacare Conception is free from artificial colourings, gluten, preservatives and yeast. Pregnacare Conception is not tested on animals

Some Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) levels are above 100%. Is this safe whilst trying for a baby?
RDA levels are calculated to help prevent the most basic vitamin and mineral deficiency states. The levels contained in Pregnacare Conception are specific to supporting your chances of conception. This is why some levels of nutrients in Pregnacare Conception are higher than the RDA (e.g. folic acid, the recommended level is 200% RDA). Importantly, all levels are safe for before and during pregnancy and well within upper safety guidelines for daily self-supplementation.

Does Pregnacare Conception contain Vitamin A (retinol), because excess is not advised during pregnancy?
No. Pregnacare® Conception has been carefully formulated to contain betacarotene instead of vitamin A.

What happens if I forget to take my Pregnacare Conception and miss a day?
A regular intake is recommended, but don’t worry, this will not have done any harm. Simply take Pregnacare Conception on the next day when you remember, and take as directed. You should not take more than the recommended amount on subsequent days to make up for any day(s) that you have missed. Whilst it is important to take a supplement every day, if you miss one day this is fine because the beneficial effects of the vitamins and minerals build over time.

Can Pregnacare Conception be taken whilst using the contraceptive pill?
Yes. Pregnacare Conception has been especially developed for women to help build up the body’s reserves of the key nutrients needed for a healthy conception, to ensure you have the best possible nutritional support for this important time. It is therefore recommended 3-6 months before you start trying to conceive i.e while still using the contraceptive pill or other forms of contraception. Pregnacare Conception includes no drugs or hormones, and is safe to be taken alongside the contraceptive pill.

Hello, I would like to ask if these pills can take you during the time you are trying to get pregnant, being that in the box it says that BEFORE PREGNANCY. If you can give me an answer. Thank you.

      Hi Evie
You should take 1 tablet per day. Each box contains 30 tablets, which is enough to last you for a month.

I’ve been using the pregnacare conception for 3weeks now. Is the conception pill alone enough to give me positive results?

I like these vitamins. Bought them here with some ovulation kits and pregnancy tests. Otherwise I don’t think it would have occurred to me. Vitamins are easy to swallow with no horrible aftertaste, which is a bonus.

I am trying to lead a “healthy” lifestyle as I prepare to have a baby. This means regular exercise, moderate drinking and cutting out processed foods and carbonated drinks. I am also using Conceive Plus lubricant which is meant to be really good. These vitamins fit in nicely with that regime and I hope they are doing my body good a I get ready for conception.
